I trained as an integrative therapist (completing postgraduate trainings in counselling, psychotherapy and psychology), which means I use different counselling theories and therapeutic principles while working with clients. Here a flavour of the therapeutic approaches I have been trained in and work with :
EMDR
Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) is a type of therapy used to treat the symptoms of trauma. When we experience traumatic events the thoughts, feelings and memories we have about those events can get stuck. It can be hard to move on from them. The aim of EMDR is to help the brain to process distressing memories. This reduces their influence and allows patients to develop ways to more effectively get on with their lives.
PERSON CENTRED:
The aim is to help clients to become more self aware and to promote growth and change. Each person, as individual, is considered as unique.
PSYCHODYNAMIC:
The aim is to help the client to bring into awareness unconscious feelings, conflicts that you are not aware of.
PSYCHOSEXUAL THERAPY:
Sex Therapy can help you if you're experiencing difficulties in your love life and can help you to improve physical intimacy.
DIALECTICAL BEHAVIOUR THERAPY (DBT):
This is a treatment developed for people with self-harm urges/ behaviours, suicidal thoughts, urges for suicide and/or suicide attempts. Individuals who have a long history of these difficulties may have been given a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) or Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD).
COGNITIVE BEHAVIOUR THERAPY (CBT):
This approach take into consideration thoughts, feelings and behaviours which have become faulty as a result of negative thinking patterns. The aim is to challenge these negative self beliefs into positive ones.
